Robert West

To His Wife’s Reflection

Watching you
study

the white
here and there

in her
just-cut

still mostly
brown hair,

she answers
your nerve

at least
here and now

only
with her own

arching eyebrow.

Robert West grew up in Henderson County, in western North Carolina, and now lives in Starkville, Mississippi; he teaches in the Department of English at Mississippi State University. His poems have appeared in venues including Southern Poetry Review, Christian Science Monitor, Poetry, Asheville Poetry Review, Pembroke Magazine, and Ted Kooser's American Life in Poetry. His latest collection is the chapbook Convalescent (Finishing Line Press, 2011).
