Miranda Howard is a 25-year-old banker from Salyersville, Kentucky, a mere dot on the map of rural Appalachia, probably best known as the place where the Mountain Parkway ends. Miranda loves her home with the same intensity with which she once burned to escape it and is endlessly inspired and motivated by the places and people who inhabit her beloved mountains. She recently earned her MFA in Creative Writing from Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky.

Rural Dictionary

Plucky, adj.: brave, spunky,
feisty, courageous in the face
of adversity, or, if you don’t
mind trusting my plucky
Mamaw over Webster:
full of piss and vinegar.
Maybe she’ll just call you
a corker, but that’s what
she’ll mean, the thing
about piss and vinegar.
